Recordings of Actual
Conversions: Example #3
The
recording below shows vConverter 3.0
performing a migration of a physical
Web Server running Windows® Server 2003 SP1 server with a single 233GB volume,
converting directly to a VMware ESX
host.
The entire
conversion takes exactly 4 minutes (video runs at
5x speed).

Fast, Easy and Reliable Conversion Projects
The elapsed time from start to finish for a conversion project
includes setup time and actual conversion time. Vizioncore has
researched and optimized both categories. vConverter setup is very
straightforward and does not require installation of infrastructure
components such as databases or web services. The vConverter
application is a light standalone application that takes very little
time to download and install.
Conversion Speed – The Single Most Critical Metric for Conversion Efforts
A significant R&D effort and focus on conversion efficiencies has
resulted in the fine tuning of read/write/transfer algorithms and
the creation of mechanism specifically for ESX as the target which
results in impressive speed and reliability benchmarks.
- Increased Throughput. Vizioncore's stream lined proprietary SFTP
host agent results in extremely fast and secure data throughput.
- Increased W rite Speed. vConverter includes Vizioncore's
proprietary `Vzboost' VMware kernel level driver which speeds
up all w rites to the VM FS to reduce bottlenecks.
- Disk Geometry
and Selective Conversion Algorithms. The creation and
integration of a series of conversion techniques including
advanced disk geometry and data pre allocation algorithms
results in advanced intelligence and handling of the bits and
bytes required for cloning.
Target Host
OS:
ESX 3.0.2 Machine: Dell
PowerEdge 2850 Dual XEON 3Ghz, 4GB RAM Disk: Local SCSI storage at
10,000 RPM 200GB Free NIC:
Broadcom BCM5708C NetXtreme II GigE
Source Server
Source OS:
Windows Server 2003 SP1 Machine: Dell Inspiron, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
3800+, 2Ghz, 2GB RAM Disk: Hitachi SATA 7500RPM NIC: Single Gigabit NIC
Size
of hard drive doesn’t matter as
vConverter uses a rapid pre-allocation
algorithm.
The amount of data and number of
applications residing on the source
machine will obviously affect the
conversion time. This example provides
more of a baseline for a fresh machine.
